NC 109 Project
The Town of Wallburg has partnered with the NC Department of Transportation to widen NC Highway 109 and to add a center turning lane from just north of Ray Lanning Road to in front of Wallburg Mulch, with stop lights being installed at Motsinger Road and Wallburg Road.
September 20, 2024 – Updated timeline from NCDOT
July 9, 2024 – Winston-Salem MPO Regional Projects Survey (Must be submitted by July 15th, 2024)
June 2024 – No update from NCDOT other than property acquisitions moved back to 02/2025
March 2024 – No changes other than the timeline for the project has been moved back, the engineering stage continues.
February 2024 – Per Pat Ivey with NCDOT the NC109 project is moving forward.
December 2023 – Engineering stage underway per NC DOT.
December 2022 – Town Council approves NC DOT proposed traffic plan and project agreement to help improve the safety of the Hwy 109 area at the Wallburg Road and Motsinger Road intersection/areas.
October 2022 – Pat Ivey, with NC DOT provided an update on the cost of the proposed traffic plan for that has been presented over the last months to the council.
May 2022 – Pat Ivey with the NC DOT reviewed the previous discussion meeting at the town regarding
road safety improvements. He proposed the recommended alternative that was brought to the
public meeting back in February 2022. The Town would need to execute a project agreement with the NC DOT no later than March of 2023 to proceed.
February 15, 2022 – Public Meeting to discuss proposed NC 109 Traffic Signal and Turn Lane Project:
December 2021 – Pat Ivey with NC DOT made presentation with options for Hwy 109 safety improvements. Consensus to move ahead with a DOT workshop possibly in March to have the public and DOT to come together in a workshop to look at potential safety solutions for Hwy 109.
September 2021 – Councilman Steve Yokeley and Mayor Allen Todd meet with Pat Ivey with the NC DOT to address Hwy 109 traffic congestion concerns. Discussion regarding a bypass, band aid fixes, turning lanes, Motsinger Road turning lane.
November 2019 – Pat Ivey with NC DOT presented a proposal for a Hwy 109 project in efforts to improve the existing highway 109. Resolution passed unanimously to submit the project to the MPO for scoring.
April 2019 – Councilman Lynn Reece attended the High Point MPO meeting on March 26 and mentioned that a turning lane at Motsinger Road would help with school traffic. Mayor Todd attended the Winston Salem MPO meeting and let it be known that there are huge traffic concerns and safety issues on highway 109. He also expressed the need for a turning lane on Motsinger Road for school traffic located near the ball fields to help expedite drop off and pick up.
February 28, 2014 (Planning Retreat) – Discussion with Guy Cornman and Kevin Edwards in regard to planning details for possible future projects regarding safety, improvements and traffic calming mechanisms.
